Dr. Ries received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago. Her research interests are foreign exchange exposure and risk management; network economics; global corporate finance; emerging market economics; global financial economics; organizations and markets; corporate financial policy and strategy; enterprise resource modeling and information economics and value-based corporate economics. Her current research and teaching interests include measurement of the use of Web 2.0 internet tools and connectivity on teaching outcomes in K-12 education; preparation of a textbook based on her distinctive course, The Global Economy; connectivity and microenterprise finance for reduction of poverty in Africa. Her publications include books and articles on government trade policy and corporate policy formation, capital controls in emerging economies, and articles in such journals as The Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Cash Management, Midland Corporate Finance Journal, and the financial Analysts Journal. She is the author of over 20 widely used case studies that have been published by the Harvard Business School and reprinted elsewhere. She has served on the executive and Editorial Boards of The Academy of International Business and on the editorial boards and as referee of several major professional and academic journals. She has served on the faculties and worked with both MBA and PhD students at the Harvard Business School; Fuqua School of Business, Duke University; The Claremont Graduate University, Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center and Center for Politics and Economics and Graduate School of Business, Stanford University (Visiting). She served a Chairman of the School of Economics at Georgia Tech (1997-1999). In prior academic positions she chaired major university initiatives on academic computing and the use of computers in education, internationalization of the business curriculum, academic standards university strategic planning and investment endowment, and faculty governance. Her work on advisory councils and as a consultant includes service to several U.S. and foreign universities, governments, corporations, and financial institutions. Among these are Barclays Bank, Morgan Guaranty Trust, IBM, and Chase Manhattan Bank and Citicorp. Her experience on corporate and not-for-profit boards is extensive and she is currently serving as Trustee and Chair of Education Committee for The Atlanta International School. Dr. Ries has delivered speeches and public lectures around the globe and is the recipient of several teaching awards.
