Dr. Klimenko received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from St. Petersburg State University; his M.A. in Sociology from Brown University; his M.A. in Statistics from Stanford University; and his Ph.D. in business also from Stanford University. Professor Klimenko's research interests include International trade theory and policy; international trade agreements on technical standards and trade policy for telecommunications and information technology industries; international financial institutions and problems of sovereign debt. Professor Klimenko's published papers appear in various prestigious journals including Journal of International Economics (2 papers), Journal of Development Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, and Journal of International Development. He held visiting professor positions at the East-West Center (Honolulu), Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), Nankai University (Tianjin, China) and the New Economic (Moscow, Russia). He worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation. At Georgia Tech, he is currently Director of the Graduate Program. His teaching includes microeconomics, international economics and economics of telecommunications. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he was assistant professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego.
