Parks A. Dodd Jr.

Associate Professor (Adjunct)

Dr. Dodd is an economist, speaker, and consultant focused on industrial markets, in particular commodity product and other basic materials industries. In addition to managing his own businesses, he is the senior aluminum consultant in North America for CRU International, a well-known metals industry forecasting and market research firm based in London. He is also an adjunct associate professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech, where he teaches courses in basic and applied economics to engineering and other technical students.

Previously, he was director of Strategic Planning and chief economist at Alumax before its merger with Alcoa in 1998. In this position he was responsible for all aluminum industry fundamental analysis and business research supporting corporate management. Prior to joining Alumax, he was a regional manager for the F.W. Dodge division of McGraw-Hill, managing a group that produced market analysis and forecasting services for the commercial construction market. Before moving over to Dodge, he was a managing consultant with Data Resources (DRI), McGraw-Hill’s economic forecasting and consulting operation. Dodd was also a product manager for Chase Econometrics, a unit of the old Chase Manhattan Bank.

Dodd began his business career in commercial banking in Atlanta with the Trust Company of Georgia, which is now known as SunTrust Banks. In subsequent positions he was involved in research, forecasting, and planning in the health and education fields.

A native of Rome, Georgia, Dodd attended the Darlington School and graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management. He also holds an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgia State University. His professional association memberships include the National Association of Business Economists and the Atlanta Economics Club, for which he is a past president. He also was a member for several years of the Aluminum Association’s Statistics and Market Research Committee, serving one term as chairman. In addition, he represented Alumax on the Statistics Committee of the International Primary Aluminum Institute.
