Dr. Thomas “Danny” Boston is a Professor of Economics in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech, where he has taught since 1985.  Danny is also CEO of EuQuant, which is an economic research company that specializes in business analytic and urban planning. In July 2011, the Atlanta Tribune Magazine ranked EuQuant as the #2 black-owned business in the State of Georgia as measured by commitment to community, wealth of knowledge, vision, and financial prowess. Furstrated by the lack of timely data and information on small businesses, he launched  the Gazelle Index (www.gazelleindex.com) in November of 2011. The blog focuses on the economy and small businesses; including, minority and women-owned business performance and hiring. The blog currently ranks #1 - #4 in Google search results related to its "Tags". A native of Jacksonville, Florida, he completed undergraduate studies at West Virginia State University and the PhD Degrees in Economics at Cornell University, where he specialized in economic development and macroeconomics. He is a former Capt. in the U.S. Army and recipient of the Purple Heart.

Danny's current research is on entrepreneurship and firm growth (focusing on minority and small businesses), public economics (focusing on project evaluation) and urban economics (focusing on the impact of public housing policies on families and neighborhoods). Internationally, he serves as an advisor to the Nigerian House Committee on Millennium Development Goals and the South African Free State Legislature on MDGs. He is a regular economics contributor to CNN. Dr Boston has testified numerous times before Committees and Sub-Committees of the US Senate and House of Representatives regarding the impact of federal policies on minority business performance and federal housing policies on low income families and neighborhoods. He is a consultant to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and provides research to congressional committees regarding their exercise of oversight over the nation's minority and small business programs. Formerly he served on the Small and Midsize Business Advisory Council of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank and on the Black Enterprise (BE Magazine) Board of Economists. He is a recipient of numerous teaching awards including Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College Legacy Award; Undergraduate Professor of the Year Award; and the State of Georgia Economics Educator of the Year Award.

Professionally he has served as President of the National Economic Association; editor of The Review of Black Political Economy, senior economist to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, and  member of three former Atlanta Mayors' Council of Economic Advisors. Dr. Boston received numerous research grants from major foundations and government agencies and he has authored or edited six books and numerous scholarly articles and research reports. His most recent articles and scholarly correspondence appear in the Harvard International Review, Summer 2011, and the Democracy Journal, summer 2011.
